Inauguration of Sakai Urban Sports Park 2nd and S-depo

A grand inauguration ceremony was held to cerebrate the completion of SAKAI Urban Sports Park 2nd and S-depo, which have been a collaborative project between Town of Sakai, Ibaraki Japan, and ABC Planning Inc.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of HURRICANE, the operator of the FISE World Series, as well as representatives from Embassies of Argentina, France and Australia.

Town of Sakai purchased and relocated the park actually used for Cycling BMX Freestyle competition of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (held in 2021). The park is a world-class all-weather urban sports park with a full roof and lighting so that it can be used even on rainy days, allowing training and competitions to take place regardless of the weather.
The park will be able to host international competitions such as the World Cup and the FISE World Series, and together with the existing SAKAI Urban Sports Park (outdoor park), is expected to further increase the number of visitors and promote sports tourism. It is also expected to contribute to the revitalisation of the local economy by attracting training camps or events, and to the promotion of immigration and settlement for the purpose of ‘Sport’.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Cycling BMX Freestyle Park gold medallist in Tokyo 2020 Logan Martin (30), professional inline skater Takeshi Yasutoko (36), who has been also involved in the management of the facility and coaching inline skating as a Local Vitalization Cooperator for Town of Sakai, a professional BMX rider Toshio Takagi (34), who will be also the Cooperator from the next April, and immigrating residents to Town of Sakai for sport, inline skater Mei Myoga, BMX riders Leon Shirai and Rena Shirai. They all demonstrated excellent performances and attracted the attendee.

Town of Sakai Cultural Village Functional Improvement Facility ‘S-depo’
S-depo is a facility developed as part of the town’s sports-centred town development programme, and is used as a reception area for the adjacent Urban Sports Park, Sakai Tennis court 2020 and other facilities. There will also be an Olympic legacy booth to pass on to future generations the historical fact that Town of Sakai hosted a total of 100 athletes from the Republic of Argentina in a pre-camp for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a shop booth where you can purchase sports equipment such as BMX and in-line skates and re-cover tennis racket guts, as well as a trainer booth where you can receive care (massage, etc.) to recover from fatigue and improve athletic function after practice or games. The inauguration ceremony was attended by 140 pupils from the local primary school, whose eyes were sparkled by the dynamic skills of the professionals, and the Olympic Legacy Room at S-depo, where they were able to see the torch, the artificial turf floor used by the athletes in the actual triathlon, and other legacy items from the Tokyo Olympics. The visitors were also able to see a number of other legacy items from the Tokyo Olympics.

Logan Martin (30), who gave a demonstration at the inauguration ceremony, was delighted with the completion of the park, saying, “It’s an Olympic legacy and a great park for everyone to enjoy, from beginners to high-level athletes.

ABC Planning was involved from the planning stage of the facility, and has utilised its knowledge to support all aspects of the design, construction and operational planning. The Town of Sakai facility will play a central role in attracting people from all over the world.
